For a moment, imagine a world without art.
No paintings, books, music, dancing, drawings, films, etc. Not even platforms like the one you’re reading this on. Nothing.
Pretty boring, huh? I’m not sure who would want to live in a world like that but I can tell you with great certainty, I would not.
Art is an essential part of the human experience.
Do we need it to survive the same way we need food and water? Probably not, though, good luck convincing some of us. Yet, a human experience without art would be bland, boring, drab, and downright miserable.
Our Earth’s beauty is a picture-perfect example of this.
If art was not an essential part of the human experience, God would have placed us in a giant cardboard box and not even bothered with the mountains, the ocean, or the universe. Because after all, what would be the point?
What does this mean for you?
Great question. This means that when you sit down (or stand up) to create you are being very productive. Believe it or not, the act of working on your art, even if you consider it a hobby, is productive. Even if it makes you zero income, it is productive. This may seem like an insane concept to many of you and believe me, I get it. It’s something I have to remind myself of daily.
Yet, the more you can latch on to the truth that working on your art is productive, the more you will enjoy creating. As a result, your art will only continue to improve and you'll have fun creating it.
So, when you want to create but feel like you should do the dishes instead or you should fold the laundry or whatever it is that you feel you should be doing rather than creating, remind yourself that you must create. Why? Because art is essential.
